BirthSense® HypnoCaesarean™

For years, parenting groups and medical professionals have examined the importance of natural birth and integrated such philosophies into birthing centres. However when it comes to c-sections, the emphasis is still on the surgical, and less emphasis is placed on relaxation, bonding and the ways in which parents can enjoy meeting their babies.

The HypnoCaesarean programme from BirthSense takes the principles of natural birth and explores how to apply them in a surgical setting. We look at the most important aspects of natural birth in terms of hormonal release and bonding philosophies, and at ways that these can become manifest for caesarean section births.

In addition we use hypnotherapeutic techniques to minimise anxiety and promote deep relaxation, for use before, during and after your birth.

The course is suitable for those planning a c-section on either medical or psychological grounds. For those who are planning a surgical birth due to tokophobia, we are able to prepare you for that birth while offering full support and information on gentle, natural birth so that your options remain open if that is your preference.

The course can be tailored to individuals, but the basic course syllabus is as follows:

Session 1:

  • Changing our expectations; how to look forward to previously frightening situations
  • The importance of planning and looking forward to meeting your baby
  • The rationale for making c-sections reflect natural birth - the psychology of birth and the role of hormones in birthing and bonding
  • How the body reacts to fear and tension, and how this affects the birthing system
  • How hypnosis can create positive birth outcomes
  • Anchoring techniques for before and after birth

Session 2:

  • The importance of the birth environment
  • The "Natural Caesarean"; how to make the operating theatre a good birth environment
  • Writing the Birth Plan
  • Going through the procedure- what happens on the day
  • The role of the birth partner
  • Hypnotic analgesia for use after the birth
  • Releasing fear
  • Post birth recovery and breastfeeding
